"Ghana Health Declaration Form." This is a legal statement by the government of Ghana, representing its commitment to achieving an AIDS-free country. The Health Declaration is 1 part of the Global AIDS declaration. I'd like to have a minute to discuss what the HIV/AIDS announcement means for Ghana. It basically says that the government of Ghana has opted to have a public health strategy to AIDS, and is dedicated to implement an action plan according to these plans. In other words, they will make certain there are no gaps in protection and treatment. Now let's look at the Ghana health declaration form. There are eight key pillars of action that it addresses. They are: To execute an effective public health program, ensuring access to quality health services; providing access to social and economic programs aimed at enhancing the status of women and young guys; employ programs focused on tribal and rural people; make sure that HIV/AIDS incidence is diminished among the different groups of individuals; work towards creating an environment that promotes family planning; also, implement policies which reduce poverty and improve access to higher education. By looking closely at those in the context of Ghana, we could see some interesting gaps in coverage that may be addressed. The first pillar is to implement an effective public health system. So, how does this fit in with all the Ghanaian model? In Accra, the mind of each district or"neighborhood wellness office" would have responsibility for coordinating all the different health businesses within their area of responsibility. For example, say you had a disease epidemic in the rural sector of Ghana. If your local health office did not match with the General Medical Council of Ghana, or the Department of Health, and if your county was not included in the national roll out, you would not be able to get an HIV/AIDS test outcome, or some form of affordable AIDS medication. How could this fit into the context of a certification process? The Ghanaian Government has drawn up a five year program for AIDS prevention and treatment known as the Accra Compact. The compact provides for treatment and testing centers which are licensed by the Ghanaian Ministry of Health and is supported by ministries of the Federal Government as well as by non-government associations and people. This is simply 1 example of how the Ghana Government is integrating itself with the neighborhood to deal with the issue of STD and HIV. It's also providing support to the nationwide roll from this very long trip program which includes instructions for communities to implement security measures like washing hands thoroughly before ingesting from any body of water and also for teachers to inform students about safe sex. These statements, while quite basic in nature might be a catalyst for other initiatives on the long excursion agenda. For instance, a student in my clinic in Accra recently came out with all the bold statement"I'll see what I can do to make this trip a success". This announcement caught my attention because, to my understanding, no black pupil in any part of the planet has made this explicit commitment to a cause, particularly one focused on finishing a long trip via a third world country. In his announcement he went on to state he was planning to maintain all his personal hygiene problems in mind, not go swimming where his bare feet were exposed to water. In addition, he mentioned that he was planning to be sure he didn't use any of the many free clinics in existence in Ghana. He went on to state he was conscious there were no doctors available to assist him if he get ill or any medical assistance was needed.
